Provincial Early Mobility in Critical Care
Improving patient outcomes though early mobility in critical care
There is evidence that protocol driven early mobility and rehabilitation practices in ICUs improve both short and long-term patient outcomes including a reduction of the physical complications of critical illness and length of stay.
To support improved patient outcomes for Ontario’s critical care patients, Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO) is leading a demonstration project on early mobility for level 3 Critical Care Units in Ontario. In collaboration with a project steering committee CCSO has developed an early mobility protocol and a toolkit that can be used by ICUs across the province to guide implementation of early mobility program for selected patients.
